RMN Expects To Receive First LMS Before October 2019

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) expects to receive one of its two Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) earlier than its October 2019 deadline. RMN chief Admiral Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said the construction of the two vessels by China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co. Ltd and Boustead Naval Shipyard was currently running according to schedule. “I’m satisfied with the development report on the construction of the LMS. InsyaAllah, we will receive the first of the two LMS before October 2019,” he told Bernama here. The LMS is one of the five types of vessels approved for construction under the RMN's Fleet Transformation Programme to enable RMN to mount effective maritime operations continuously. Under the programme, 16 LMS will be built in stages by the local shipyard to replace the RMN’s old assets. -- BERNAMA
