Gua Kelam Dua Beckons Visitors With Mysterious Pyramid-Like Stone Structures

PADANG BESAR (Perlis, Malaysia) Sept 17 (Bernama) -- For adventure seekers, the experience of exploring caves such as going down the river, trudging along narrow alleys, cautiously walking on rocky grounds in pitch-black darkness might bring to mind the scenes of popular adventure movies such as ‘Indiana Jones’ or ‘Tomb Raider’. If adventure and mystery are your preference then Perlis’ Gua Kelam Dua is definitely for you. Besides providing caving experiences, Gua Kelam Dua also offers a new attraction in the form of three pyramid-like stone structures located deep in the cave. Perlis State Forestry Department director Awang Shaffie Awang Ahmadni told Bernama recently Gua Kelam Dua is not as popular as Gua Kelam Satu as many are still unaware of what it has to offer. He said a tour of the limestone cave will give an extraordinary experience to visitors who are attracted to nature’s alluring mystery and adventures. He said the three stone structures are believed to be the final resting place of tin miners, however, investigations on the mysterious structures have yet to be conducted. "We believe the structures are old graves based on the findings around the area,” he said adding that the structures are about two to three metres tall and three metres wide. He said people who wish to see the structures should first contact the Perlis State Forestry Department to obtain guide services and climbing gears to ensure their safety. He said Gua Kelam Dua is only open for visitors on Saturdays and Sundays through a morning session from 9 am to 11 am and an afternoon session that starts at 2 pm. Awang Shaffie said although the public is welcome to walk in, they are highly encouraged to make reservations first. He said only visitors who have completed their COVID-19 jabs are allowed to explore the cave. Gua Kelam is a former tin ore mine that was first opened in 1935. It is located on the outskirts of Kaki Bukit town, about 33 km from Kangar and was gazetted as part of the Perlis State Park on July 3, 2008. The cave has three entrances, each offering a different caving experience to visitors. --BERNAMA
