Hot Weather Not AffectiLangkawi Tourist Arrivals To Malaysia 's Kedah State - Tourism Exco

LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), April 2 (Bernama) -- The hot weather since early this year does not affect tourist arrivals to the northern state of Kedah, especially Langkawi following early alerts issued involving the El Nino phenomenon. Kedah Tourism Executive Committee chairman, Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid said that so far tourism activities, including those planned under the Discover Kedah 2016 programmes would be implemented on schedule despite being held in the open. "The weather may limit the movements of tourists but it does not prevent them from coming because they also like the hot weather," he said when met after presenting certificates of appreciation to Kedah tourism stakeholders, who participated in the recent Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) fair in Kuala Lumpur. He said the number of tourists to Langkawi, which remained high, was evident when hotel operators here attained an occupancy rate of between 75 to 95 per cent since January. Menwhile, he expressed appreciation to the efforts of 14 tourism companies and hotels from Kedah that took part in the Matta Fair 2016 which recorded sale packages worth RM1.7 million (about US$435,897), surpassing other states. Langkawi is well known for its natural landscapes, expansive parks, and iconic structures. As one of Malaysia’s best-known and most popular beach destinations, the massive island is home to historical attractions, great fare, excellent diving opportunities, exciting night life and -cheap shopping. -- BERNAMA
