International Travellers Face Delays At Australian Airports

By Neville DCruz MELBOURNE, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Thousands of international travellers are facing delays at airports across Australia after immigration and border force workers walked off the job Monday morning. This scenario is expected to continue for the next 10 days, as staff will stop work for two hours during the morning and evening peaks at eight Australian airports. Airport workers are expressing their frustration over take home pay cuts. National Secretary of Community and Public Sector Union Nadine Flood said the cuts would leave some workers poorer by A$8,000 or more a year. "These are mums and dads worried about paying their mortgage and paying their bills," Flood told the Nine Network. Australian Border Force said arrangements were in place to minimise impact on operations. The strikes started at 4am in Cairns and have been scheduled for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and the Gold Coast and again in the evening. -- BERNAMA
