Iran to deploy ships for intl. tourism

TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (MNA) – Due to recent developments in Iran’s tourism, international tourists will start arriving by ship next year, deputy of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said. Morteza Rahmani Movahed noted that Iran’s tourism growth has doubled in recent years and for the first time after the Revolution, tourism has finally reached a positive balance. “Our tourism infrastructure needs to be improved and we must advertise Iran’s tourist attractions on the international scene,” he added. While noting that Iran would have a more powerful presence in various markets next year, he said, “one new way for international tourist inbound arrival is by sea. Putting ships at the service of the visitors will greatly benefit our tourism industry since ships handle more passengers than trains and aircrafts. Every ship voyage brings in approximately 3,000 visitors to Iran.” In 2011, the number of foreign tourists in Iran reached 3 million, contributing more than $2 billion to the national economy. Since then, the tourism trend has been enjoying a stable ascend.
