Kemaman All Set For World's Largest Boat Parade

KEMAMAN (Terengganu, Malaysia), Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The world's largest boat parade scheduled to be held in Kemaman on Sept 13 will involve 1,135 boats, and beat the world record of 670 boats used on London's River Thames during the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's reign in 2012. An estimated 6,000 fishermen from the Kemaman and Dungun districts are expected to participate in the parade from Kuala Paka to Kuala Kemaman, a distance of 70 kilometres. The head of the programme secretariat, Mustafa Ab Rahman, said the preparations for the parade were in the final stages. Mustafa, who is the special officer to Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek, urged all relevant parties to refer to the offices of fishermen's associations from Dungun to Kemaman and in Cherating, Pahang, as well as the print and electronic media and official Facebook page and email for latest information on the programme. He said the committee was in the midst of updating the records of boats and the 6,000 fishermen who would be participating in the historic event. "We have conducted talks on safety with the cooperation of the fishermen's associations in Kuala Kerteh, Kemasik, Kijal, Telok Kalong and Kuala Kemaman," he said. He also said that the event was being held with the cooperation of the Department of Civil Defence, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Health Department, Communications and Multimedia Ministry and the Police. -- BERNAMA
