Labuan's UN Beach In The 101 Asia's Best Beaches List

LABUAN (Malaysia), May 26 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Corporation (LC) will continue to intensify efforts on beach beautification following international recognition of its United Nations (UN) Beach as among Asia’s 101 best beaches. Following the listing in the 101 Best Beach.Com, the UN Beach Labuan is also listed as among Malaysia’s best 15 beaches. Other beaches in the list are Sibuan Island, Mabul Island, Mantanani Island, and Tanjung Aru Beach in Sabah, Pangkor Island, Damai Beach, Telok Pandan, Batu Feringghi, Pasir Tengkorak, Coral Bay, Pasir Panjang Beach, Juara Beach, Desaru Beach and TeluK Kemang. The listing was made through an assessment and evaluation by renowned Australian conservationist Brad Farmer in October last year to document beautiful beaches in the nation for his new book, 101 Best Beaches.Com Asia. With advice from Tourism Malaysia, 15 beaches from 10 states were selected for the two-week long inspection. LC chief executive officer Mohd Nadzri Osman described the recognition as a motivation to develop the tourism sector. “We should be thankful with the international recognition and we will intensify efforts or beautification programmes to woo more visitor arrivals,” he said in response to the listing. He also said LC with the cooperation of tourism authorities like Tourism Malaysia and industry players had come up with strategies to introduce affordable new tourism products and packages to attract more visitors. Dubbed, 'Best of Labuan Holiday Packages 2015', the products hoped to draw one million visitors to the island this year. “Focusing on tourism will also enable us to improve our infrastructure and visitor facilities and services,” said Mohd Nadzri. Labuan is a federal territory in East Malaysia, and an island off the coast of Sabah. Its capital is Victoria. Labuan is best known as an offshore financial centre offering international financial and business services. -- BERNAMA
