Langkawi Island, The Tourist Gateway To Malaysia's Kedah - Minister Mukhriz

From Rhoma Ahmad Razali MILAN (Italy), Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's northern state Kedah would be using Langkawi island, already renowned throughout the world as a resort island, to promote the state's other tourism products, said Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Mukhriz Mahathir. "When they (international community) know that Langkawi Island is located in Kedah, then they'll get interested in other tourism products in the state, such as Sungai Batu, Bujang Valley, Pedu Lake and Ulu Muda. "These are interesting spots and I think tourists from Europe want to see all that we can offer in Kedah," he said when met by Malaysian journalists after visiting the Malaysian Pavilion at the Expo Milano 2015, Tuesday. Mukhriz is here in Milan, leading a Kedah state government delegation to the Expo. Also in the delegation are Kedah royal family members, Tengku Temenggong Kedah, Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, who is chairman of the Kedah Council of Regency, and the Tunku Puan Temenggong, Tengku Maliha Tengku Ariff. Mukhriz said Malaysia's participation in such a world expo was a good opportunity for the country, including Kedah, to showcase its tourism products as well as products of its small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Hence, he felt that Malaysia should participate in more of such expos in future in a more organised and strategic manner. "We want to highlight to the world community that although Malaysia has been involved for so long in agriculture, it has acquired high technology like in the Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah, where big companies from all over the world have invested there," he said. Malaysia is among 148 countries participating in the six-month Expo Milano 2015 from May 1, with the promotion of food safety and technology as among its objectives. The expo targets 20 million visitors. In conjunction with his visit here from Monday until Friday, this week, Mukhriz is scheduled to meet with a number of Italian companies in the medical line to invite them to invest in Kedah. --BERNAMA
