Malaysian Culture, Cuisine Captivate Polish Crowd

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's mesmerising culture and mouth-watering cuisine took centre stage at the recently-organised 'Malaysia Culture Day' in Krakow, Poland. Presided over by Malaysian ambassador to Poland Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the event also featured a Malaysian traditional fashion show as well as a Malay wedding presentation, narrated in English and Polish. The Malaysian traditional dance segment was performed by Polish and Malaysian medical students from Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University. Other programmes held during the event on Sunday included a Malay language workshop, lectures on Malay literature, a presentation on women in contemporary Malaysia as well as tourism promotion. In a statement, the Malaysian embassy in Warsaw said the event was held in collaboration with the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology with support from Frankfurt-based Tourism Malaysia office. In his remarks, Ahmad Fadil talked about the embassy's plan to establish the Malaysia Culture Club in Poland. The idea, he said, had been given the nod by Malaysia's Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz. "The overwhelming response to the invitation for locals to join the club extended during the Malaysia Culture Day is a good indication that people-to-people ties will strengthen the warm and cordial relations between the two countries enjoyed since 1977," Ahmad Fadil said. Marek Paszucha, who was Poland's envoy to Malaysia from 1990 to 1994, and Professor Adam Jahlonek who served as ambassador from 2010 to 2014 shared their experiences and memories with other attendees. Meanwhile, Manggha Museum director Bogna Maj commended the successful hosting of the Malaysia Culture Day. "The event has provided guests with an amazing experience on matters associated with Malaysian multi-cultural society," she said. Krakow is the second largest and one of Poland's oldest cities. It has traditionally been one of the leading academic, cultural, tourism and economic centres of Poland. --BERNAMA
