Malaysia's Johor To Step Up Tourism Promotion Missions To China Next Year

NUSAJAYA (Johor, Malaysia), Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia's Johor state government will step up efforts to woo Chinese tourists next year with tourism promotion missions, the State Assembly heard Sunday. The missions will feature business-matching sessions between Johor tourism agencies and their Chinese counterparts, said state Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Tourism Committee Chairman Tee Siew Kiong. He was replying to a Member of Parliament Norshida Ibrahim who wanted to know the state government's strategy to raise Chinese tourist arrivals next year. Tee said next year, several tourism fairs are planned for major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong as well as for second-tier cities with a population of between eight and 20 million people. The Johor Tourism Department has also been holding familiarisation trips for Chinese journalists and travel agents from time to time, he added. "From January to October, the state recorded 677,549 tourist arrivals from China, up from 527,685 in the same period last year, and the state government will continue with efforts to make Johor (Malaysia's southern state) an attractive and high-value tourism destination," he added. --BERNAMA
