More Dutch tourists interested in Yogyakarta's historical tourism

Yogyakarta, March 12 (Antara) - Dutch tourists are a potential market that should be managed well as they are interested in Yogyakarta's historical tourism, stated Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Yogyakarta Eko Suryo Maharso. "There are many Dutch tourists visiting Yogyakarta to find out about the history of their families," Eko noted here Thursday. According to Eko, Dutch tourists visit the Tourism and Culture Office to seek information about the buildings that were constructed during the Dutch occupation of Yogyakarta. "They then visit these buildings to see their condition. For example, the buildings along Sudirman Street, in Kotabaru, and Tegalpanggung Elementary School," Eko noted. He stated that the office is taking serious efforts to develop the historical attractions, so that tourists can visit the tourism spots and also gain an insight into their history. "We have not counted the number of Dutch tourists that visited Yogyakarta. Hopefully, there will be an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Yogyakarta," Eko added. Besides the Netherlands, the other European tourists visiting Yogyakarta are from France. "French tourists are interested in the supernatural legends widely told in the communities. They then learn about the legends scientifically," Eko said. Meanwhile, Asian tourists coming from countries such as Japan and China prefer to travel around Yogyakarta city and enjoy the views. Some 2.7 million tourists visited Yogyakarta in 2013 and the number increased to three million in 2014. In 2015, the office targets to invite more than 2.7 million domestic and foreign tourists.(*)
