Re-Branding Will Strengthen Labuan Tourism Sector

LABUAN (Malaysia), May 28 (Bernama) -- The Labuan tourism industry, with its identity of the traditions of the local community will be re-branded in a move to strengthen the sector on the duty-free island. Labuan Member of Parliament, Rozman Isli said the re-branding would highlight the traditions of the people on the island as a new tourism attraction. He said the re-branding would include reviving traditional activities and games which could be offered to foreign tourists. "Labuan will continue highlighting the cultural and ethnic heritage of the state as a tourist attraction, as well as inform others of the local history," he told Bernama here Wednesday. According to Rozman, the idea for the re-branding would not only highlight the unique heritage but also serve as a balance to modern tourism programmes which had been introduced. Meanwhile, Rozman said Labuan had planned several programmes for next year in conjunction with the 2015 Festival Year. One of them is the Islamic Musical Festival which will be held for the first time in Labuan. Other annual programmes like the Labuan Water Festival, Big Motor Week and the Borneo Arts Festival will also be held. -- BERNAMA
