Russia earns $1bln from Chinese tourists in 2014 - agency

YAROSLAVL, September 24. /TASS/. Russia’s earnings from Chinese tourists stood at $1 billion in 2014, a deputy head of the Federal Tourism Agency said on Thursday. "Last year 117 million tourists traveled from China," Sergei Korneyev said at the Visit Russia international forum. "Last year we received some 1 billion dollars from the expenditures of Chinese tourists. This is a serious contribution to our economy." Statistics say Chinese tourists spend up to $1,200 per day during their stay in Russia. According to Koreneyev, both Chinese and European tourists are interested in Russian culture and prefer to visit small ancient towns, including those making part of the famous Golden Ring. "The Golden Ring cities, small towns in the Yaroslavl Region, such as Myshkin and Uglich have become ‘magnets’ for tourists," Korneyev said. Read more
