Sochi airport to receive first direct flights from China, Iran

SOCHI, January 20. /TASS/. The Sochi airport negotiates the launch of additional “open sky” flights this summer with international air carriers. Three Chinese carriers - China Southern, Hainan Airlines and Air China Limited - were among the first to show interest in flights to the Russian sea resort, the airport’s operating company Basel Aero told TASS on Tuesday. “Hainan Airlines is closer than others to making a decision to fly from Beijing to Sochi,” Basel Aero, part of Russia’s industrial diversified group Basic Element, said. “Also, we’ve held talks with representatives of the Iranian Mahan Air carrier on charter and regular flights from Teheran to Sochi in summer time.” The so-called “open sky” regime lifts all limits on flights by international air carriers. In 2014, due to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, passenger traffic in Sochi rose by 28 percent and exceeded 3 million people. Basel Aero expects a 30 percent surge by summer 2014. Read more
