Tourism Summit 2015 In Kuala Lumpur Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Summit 2015 organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) will be held in the federal capital Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. It would mainly focus on formulating and promulgating tourism industry-friendly and sustainable growth strategies to suit post economic integration via the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). ASLI said in a statement that the summit would bring together various local and regional stakeholders such as the Tourism and Culture Ministry and the National Tourism Council to provide inputs on the matter. The AEC, a pillar of the ASEAN Community which is expected to be established by the end of 2015, recognises the importance of tourism to the economies of its members, hence the specific tourism component to strengthen and promote it. Themed 'Connecting and Empowering Stakeholders', the Tourism Summit 2015 will also highlight the importance of connectivity. "Facilitating safe, secure and efficient travel is an essential component of tourism that consists of many components other than airlines. "For a well-rounded perspective, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and the Department of Civil Aviation will also give their outlook," said the statement. The summit will also be looking at issues relating to promotion and sustainability, and shift some focus from the 'profit' component to the 'people' and 'planet' components. "Amongst areas we hope to address are skills development and empowerment to alleviate poverty as well as environmental protection and conservation of resources," ASLI said. ASLI also hoped the one-day summit would highlight the importance of innovation in improving tourist overall experience, from planning and booking to the actual trip to post-trip sharing on various social media. Among other stakeholders expected at the summit are Air France-KLM, Borneo Adventure, Genting, Google, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council, Malaysian Association of Hotels and Taylor's University. ASLI is a Malaysia's leading independent private think tank which is committed to the development of Asian leadership and strategic thinking. --BERNAMA
