UK Daily Express: Move over Dubai, here comes Baku

Baku, May 5 (AzerTAc). London-based Daily Express newspaper has published an article headlined “Move over Dubai, here comes Baku”. The article says: “Sleek skyscrapers of glass and steel tower over elegant 19th century honey-coloured stone façades that glow in the sun. The mansions look imperiously down on the historic Inner City, once a stopping point for the camel caravans on the old Silk Road. Bounded by 12th-century defensive walls, the ancient heart of Baku sits like a faded fortress besieged by the brash modern capital of Azerbaijan.” “The latest addition to the Dubaistyle skyline is Baku’s new landmark, the Flame Towers. This trio of skyscrapers, one occupied by the Fairmont, licks up into the sky like three vast flames, more so at night when illuminations make them flicker red and orange.” The article says: “Azerbaijan has long been known as the land of fire for the incendiary nature of its geology. It complements the ancient limestone walls of the 15th-century Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Azerbaijan’s early rulers, and the 11th-century minaret. Climb the steps of the 12th-century Maiden Tower, a corrugated stone tower offering breathtaking views of the Caspian Sea.” The full article is available at: http://www.express.co.uk/travel/activity/473872/Move-over-Dubai-here-comes-Baku
