Tokyo, 2nd June 2016 (WAM) - Japan imported from the United Arab Emirates 20.149 million barrels of crude oil in April 2016, data released by the Agency of Energy and Natural Resource in Tokyo showed.
This accounts for 19.4% of Japan's total crude imports, the agency that belong to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
Saudi Arabia provided 42.688 million barrels, or 41.0% of the total, while Kuwait, Qatar, Russia and Iran provided 8.3%, 10.3%, 7.1% and 0.6% respectively.
Japan’s crude oil imports from Iran in April plunged 72 percent from a year earlier to19,161 barrels per day as Japanese buyers held back from loading Iranian oil in March, worried they would not be able to rely on government-backed insurance for voyages to Japan.
Meanwhile, Japan imported 5.021 million barrels from Iraq in April.
Arab oil accounted for 90.56or 87%, of Japan’s petroleum needs in April.
