Eight Libyan war ships still under water at Tripoli fleet base
TRIPOLI (A.A) - November 11, 2011 - Anadolu Agency (AA) has photographed the sunken Libyan fleet in Tripoli, Libya.
Eight Libyan war ships, hit by NATO, are still under water at the Tripoli Fleet Base.
Ousted and killed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi tried to use the war ships against opponents during the civil war, colonel Salih Terhuhi, the vice commander of the Tripoli Fleet Base, told AA team.
"A Russian-made frigate, which became unusable after NATO bombardment of May 20, was hit by four guided-missile rocket. Seven assault boats, including a Croatian-made and a French-made, totally or partially sank," Terhuhi told AA correspondents.
Terhuri said efforts had to be exerted to re-build the fleet, adding that he graduated from Turkish Naval War Academy in 1982 with full honors, and she had great time in Turkey.
Moreover, base commander colonel Mustafa Joha said Gadhafi neglected naval and air forces, but everything was becoming better each passing day.
Joha said Turkey was a developed country and it could help Libya, adding that they would never forget what Turkey had done when they were fighting against Gadhafi's forces.
