Camel Festival sets new Guinness Record
Mongolia has set another Guinness World Record, having organized the race of the largest number of camels. Total of 1,108 camels came to the finish line out of 1,115 registered to the race, during the “Mongolian Camel – 999” festival, held in Dalanzadgad, Omnogovi (South Gobi) aimag on March 6-7.

Omnogovi leads Mongolia and the world by Bactrian camel population. Mongolian Camel – 999 Festival gathered over 2,000 camel herders participating with over 1,600 camels from 30 soums of 11 aimags. More than 3,000 international and domestic tourists viewed the festival. Among them were, distinguished guests including Speaker Z.Enkhbold, D.Bat-Erdene MP and Minister of Food and Agriculture R.Burmaa.

A female camel gave birth to a little colt on the grounds of this festival, which incident cheered the viewers, who took this as a good omen representing great increase in the camel population.

The previous record for the largest camel race belonged to Inner Mongolia, China, where 550 camels raced.
