The President Attends the World Economic Forum

President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj has arrived in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the 46th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum which is scheduled from January 19 to 23th, 2016.

The Forum is best known for its annual winter meeting in Davos, a mountain resort in Graubünden, in the eastern Alps region of Switzerland. The meeting brings together some 2,500 top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals, and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world. Often this location alone is used to identify meetings, participation, and participants with such phrases as, "a Davos panel" and "a Davos Man".
In 2013, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the World Economic Forum. In the scope of the MoU, a round table meeting on Mongolia’s economic development perspectives was organized in Ulaanbaatar and the report was introduced during the WEF Meeting in 2014.

The theme of this year’s Meeting is “Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, which comprises over 250 sessions.

President Elbegdorj will participate in the sessions including: “Water Resiliency: Accelerating the Implementation Agenda”, “Meeting for Mining & Metals: Policy Outlook”, “Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders: Imperatives for 2016” and will hold a tete-a-tete meeting with Johann Schneider-Ammann, the President of the Swiss Confederation.

On January 20, 2016, President Elbegdorj met with Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum. At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of bilateral relations and exchanged views on organizing the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Ulaanbaatar. Also, Professor Klaus Schwab expressed that he accepted the President’s invitation to visit Mongolia on May, 2017.
