Egypt ready to replace Turkey as exporter of vegetables, fruit, clothes to Russia

CAIRO, November 29. /TASS/. Egypt is prepared to replace Turkey as an exporter of vegetables, fruit, clothes, and leather products to Russia, Al-Watan publication said on Sunday quoting the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Trade, Tareq Qabil. "The imports of vegetables and fruit from Turkey account for 66% and clothes and leather products stand next in line," he said. "Egypt has a huge potential in what concerns producing and supplying these goods." Qabil said he had notified the counterpart Russian Minister of Industries and Trade, Denis Manturov, of Egypt's proposals. "After the restrictions against Ankara, Moscow might fully meet its demands for the produce previously imported from Turkey by imports from Egypt," he said. Qabil urged the Russian side to draft a list of products making up the bulk of imports from Turkey so that his ministry could scrutinize the problem together with Egyptian producers and to streamline the exports of these products to Russia. He also said Moscow had requested permission for registration of all the dairy products and cheeses delivered from Egypt so as to ease up their access to the Russian market in the future. Read more
