Iranˈs Share In ME Petchem Output To Reach 38% In 3 Years

Tehran, May 12, IRNA – Iran would have a share of 38 percent in the Middle East petrochemical output by 2015, marking the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2010–15). Director of the Planning and Development Department at National Petrochemical Company, Ramezan Oladi said on Saturday that Iran is now has a share of more than 24 percent in the Middle Eastˈs petrochemical production. Oladi said the NPC managed to get a 37.5 percent share in total non-oil exports last year and production of Iranian petrochemical facilities accounted for about 24.5 percent of total production capacity of the Middle East. He said Iran had a share of about 16 percent in the Middle Eastˈs petrochemical output in 2005. He noted that last year, Iranian petrochemical facilities produced 41 million tons of petrochemical products of which 15.8 million tons were exported and 12.2 million tons were sold on domestic markets. The official said the installed capacity of the petrochemical facilities last year rose to 57.1 million tons and the share of petrochemical products in export of industrial products stood at 47 percent./end
