NGSC Managing Director: Gas Supply For Houses Makes Up For 67% Total Output

Tehran, Oct 2, IRNA – Managing Director of Natural Gas Storage Company Masoud Samivand said on Tuesday that gas supply for houses from Iran total gas output constitutes about 67 percent. Iran presently ranks third in the world in terms of number of natural gas storage, he said. Speaking at the first International Gas Union, he said according to BP company, Iran ranks first for its natural gas reservoir in the world. NGSC was founded in 2007 to develop technical knowledge of underground gas storage and identify the suitable structures for conversion into utility gas supply, he said. Everyone is well aware of Iran’s strategic position with respect to oil and gas in the Middle East, especially due to its huge oil and gas resources making Iran a major gas supplier to the neighboring countries and Europe. He highlighted strategy of the company to ensure safe and sustainable gas supply to the energy market. During the short life of gas storage industry in Iran, we have succeeded in commencement of two huge gas storage facilities in central Iran (Sarajeh Qom) and North east of Iran (Shurijeh). Iran with population of 75 million people ranks the third globally in terms of oil reserves while having the world’s second largest natural gas after Russia with 34 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves. Representatives from over 20 countries in the world such as France, Germany, Check Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Poland, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, North Korea and Bulgeria are to attend at the conference. The international conference is held twice a year and Tehran is currently hosting the event./end
