Thailand hosts ASEAN workshop on CSR Model on Labour

BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) - Bangkok hosts a regional workshop on the development of the ASEAN Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Model on Labour during March 9-11. Permanent Secretary for Labour ML Pundarik Smitti opened the three-day workshop on Wednesday, during which representatives of the Thai Ministry of Labour join forces with their counterparts from other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to work out a draft amendment of the ASEAN CSR Model on Labour. ML Pundarik told the workshop that the establishment of the ASEAN Community (AC) since early this year, comprising its three pillars of the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), is aimed to solve regional problems affecting living conditions of ASEAN citizens and to enable ASEAN workers to live in a strong, ethical and happy society with good governance. ML Pundarik said the AC formation is also aimed to protect ASEAN products from being barred from trading partners due to labour-related accusations. According to the senior Thai official, the draft amendment of the ASEAN CSR Model on Labour worked out during the three-day workshop should become a mechanism to help strengthen intra-regional trade, while also boosting the competitiveness of ASEAN as a whole on the world stage.
