Cinéma Vérité festival to honor Dutch director

Tehran, Nov 8, IRNA – The 8th Iranian international festival for documentary films Cinéma Vérité will honor noted Dutch director of fictional and documentary films, Heddy Honigmann. Honigmann is one of the world’s best documentary filmmakers who has bagged major awards at film festivals around the world, announced the public relations department of the Cinéma Vérité Festival. Honigmann’s films have been screened worldwide, and she has been honored with retrospectives in Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Chicago, Madrid, the MoMa in New York, and many other places. The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), slated for Nov.19-30, 2014, will also pay tribute to her. Following the IDFA, Honigmann will leave for Tehran to attend the Cinéma Vérité Festival. The Iranian event plans to screen some of her films including ‘Good Husband, Dear Son’, ‘Metal and Melancholy’ and ‘Forever’. She will be honored during the festival’s closing ceremony. Iran’s Cinéma Vérité Festival screens a wide range of productions such as political, historical, ritualistic, religious, social, environmental, scientific, ethnological and war documentaries. Organized by Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the annual festival tries to express the relationship between reality and truth. The 2014 Cinema Vérité International Documentary Film Festival is scheduled to be held from November 30 to December 7. Honigmann was born in 1951 in Lima, Peru. She studied film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Since 1978 she has been a Dutch citizen and presently lives in Amsterdam./end
