Iran Film Week highly welcomed in Singapore

Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA - Singapore ambassador in Tehran said that the Iran Film Week in Singapore was a major cultural event which was warmly welcomed by the Singaporeans. Chew Tai Soo, in a meeting with Head of Iran’s Cinema Organization Hojjatollah Ayyoubi, on Tuesday, praised the organization’s international section for holding the Iran Film Week in his country. “Over 86 percent of the cinema halls screening Persian films were occupied during the week,” he said. The Singaporeans became familiar with a different and fascinating taste in cinema, he noted adding that if this trend continues, Iranian films can contend with Hollywood productions in box office. Ayyoubi, for his part, said Iranian cinema has been quite successful in the current year. He referred to Tehran International Short Film Festival, held in October, as one of the most significant events in Iran which attracts international cineastes. He also said that the private sector has invested in the industry by building 80 cinema halls./end
