China welcomes State Duma’s decision to uphold bilateral agreement on counter-terrorism

BEIJING, November 3. /TASS/. China’s Foreign Ministry welcomes the decision of Russia’s State Duma (lower house of parliament) Committee for Security and Combating Corruption to uphold the bilateral agreement on cooperation in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism, Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a briefing on Thursday. "In the face of the dangers and challenges that emerge in the war on terror, China stands for enhancing international cooperation and joint efforts against terror threats in order to protect our society’s security," she noted. "As strategic partners, China and Russia have similar positions on the struggle against terrorism and maintain close cooperation in this sphere," the Chinese diplomat stressed. "We seek to boost cooperation with other countries, including Russia, to maintain global peace and stability," Hua Chunying concluded. On November 1, the State Duma Committee for Security and Combating Corruption upheld the Russian-Chinese agreement on cooperation in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism. The agreement, signed on September 27, 2010, is aimed at developing bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism, and contains provisions concerning joint measures to expose and prevent the planning and execution of terror attacks. The agreement particularly calls for the exchange of information on the activities of terrorists and extremists. At the same time, the document lays down the norms for investigating criminal cases at the request of one of the parties. Read more
