Dutch ambassador: EP resolution has no impacts on EU foreign policy

Tehran, April 9, IRNA – The Netherlands Ambassador to Tehran Jos Douma said on Tuesday that the resolution issued by the European Parliament runs counter to the principled stands of the Netherlands government with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He made the remarks in a meeting with the Chairman of the Majlis Commission on Foreign Policy and National Security Alaeddin Boroujerdi. Referring to longstanding relations between Iran and the Netherlands, the ambassador said that there exists a very good ground for expansion of relations. Boroujerdi said that Iranˈs foreign policy aims to broaden relations with all countries based on mutual respect and non-interference in domestic issues of the others. The Iranian parliament and EP have exchanged parliamentary delegations to broaden cooperation but such interferences as the anti-Iran resolution about so-called human rights and ignoring the Iranian governmentˈs red lines have ruined grounds for expansion of such relations and cooperation. Such move will leave negative impacts on public opinion leading to the strained relations, Boroujerdi said. It is not possible to judge administration of justice about human rights in every society and each society has its own culture, religion and ethics, he said. Boroujerdi criticized the European double standard policies in dealing with the issue of human rights.
