Ferdowsi University Ends Confab On Medicinal Plants

Tehran, May 17, IRNA - The Ferdowsi University of Mashhad hosted the 3rd National Conference on medicinal plants on May 14-15. The confab which ended recently was organized by the National Council for Science and Technology Department of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Traditional Medicine. Payman Salehi, scientific secretary of the event, said the main topics of the conference were basic sciences, agriculture, natural resources, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, economics and industry. About 1,445 articles were received by the secretariat of the conference, of which 800 articles were presented as posters and 34 as lectures. Medicinal plants have been identified and used throughout human history. Toxic plants are used in pharmaceutical development. Angiosperms (flowering plants) were the original source of most plant medicines. Some herbs and spices are derived from flowering plants./end
