Foundation To Be Set In Honor Of Late Ostad Mohammad

Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA - A foundation will be established and named after the late artist Mahmoud Ostad Mohammad, one of the most renowned Iranian playwrights and directors. The artist’s daughter announced this in a ceremony at the Artists House on Saturday to mark Ostad Mohammad’s first death anniversary. Mana Ostad Mohammad said that translator Media Kashigar, filmmaker Massoud Jafari Jozani, Javad Atefeh and Parastou Golestani will cooperate with her as the members of the foundation’s board of directors. A budget of $1,000 was also allocated for publication of Ostad Mohammad’s works. Born in Tehran, Ostad Mohammad began his career as an actor in plays directed by several Iranian theater masters such as Abbas Javanmard and Nosrat Rahmani when he was a teenager. He then joined Theater Atelier, a famous ensemble, which was led by the eminent Iranian playwright Bijan Mofid. Ostad Mohammad wrote and directed many plays that went on Iranian and international stages. He also wrote several plays while living in Canada from 1985 to 1998, representing Iranian theater and blending the basic principles of modern Western theater. ‘The Last Game’ (1999), ‘The Theatric Divan’ (2001) ‘House of Pain and Grief’ (2003) and ‘Family Photograph’ (2008) and ‘Aa Seyd Kazem’ are some of his remarkable works.
