Interpol Issues "Red Notice" for Ghosn: Lebanese Media

Beirut, Jan. 2 (Jiji Press)--The International Criminal Police Organization, or Interpol, has issued a wanted notice for the arrest of former Nissan Motor Co. <7201> Chairman Carlos Ghosn, who fled to Lebanon without permission earlier this week ahead of trial on financial misconduct charges in Japan, Lebanese state-run media reported Thursday. The Lebanese judicial authorities have received the so-called red notice for Ghosn, who has Lebanese citizenship, according to the media. A red notice calls on Interpol member states to arrest and extradite the wanted suspect. Japan and Lebanon have no treaty on the handovers of criminals. As officials of Lebanese authorities have repeatedly said the country will not extradite any suspect to a nation with which it has no treaty on criminal handovers, observers said chances remain low, despite the issuance of the Interpol notice, that Lebanon will send Ghosn back to Japan.
