Iran-built Power Plant In Tajikistan To Resume Activity

Dushanbe, Feb 1, IRNA – Tajikistanˈs Iran-made power plant, Sangtoudeh-2 will resume its activity soon after repair work is completed, the Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonov said on Friday. Certain Tajik media already carried the news that the plant was closed down because of Tajikistanˈs failure to pay its debts to Iran on time. Usmonov told reporters that according to an agreement between Tehran and Dushanbe, the plant halted its activities two weeks ago for annual repairs and technical checks. The first turbine of Sangtoudeh-2 power plant, some 180 kilometers from the capital, Dushanbe, was inaugurated in 2011 simultaneous with Tajikistanˈs Independence Day. The second turbine is due to soon in a ceremony with participation of officials from Both Iran and Tajikistan. Iran and Tajikistan have invested $180 million and $40 million respectively on the project. The Iranian contractor will hand the plant to Tajikistan in 12 years./end
