London School, Coventry University Develop Maritime Communication Module

JAKARTA, Jan 24 (Antara) - The London School of Public Relations (LSPR) in Jakarta and the University of Coventry in England have established cooperation to develop an educational curriculum in the field of maritime communication. The cooperation was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two higher educational institutions in Jakarta on Monday. "The development of the educational curriculum in the field of maritime communication is in line with the government's development program, which is contained in the 'Nawa Cita' to transform Indonesia into a maritime nation," Director of LSPR Jakarta Prita Kemal Gani stated in her opening remarks at the event. "Nawa Cita" is the nine National Priority Agenda under the government of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. She noted that the idea to develop a major in maritime communication was the result of a discussion on the development challenges faced by Indonesia to transform the nation into a maritime axis on the commemoration of National Press Day 2016 in West Nusa Tenggara Province. Gani asserted that as a leading communication school in the country, LSPR is committed to strengthening the welfare and security of Indonesia as a maritime nation. "Hence, LSPR has established partnerships with educational institutions that have global reputation, particularly those with expertise in the maritime field, such as the University of Coventry," Gani pointed out. She explained that the curriculum for maritime communication developed by LSPR and the university located in the city of Coventry, England, includes tourism, international law, business, shipping, ports, international relations, and diplomacy. The cooperation between the two institutions includes developing joint modules, organizing seminars and workshops, holding lecturer and student exchanges, and conducting joint research.
