Religious ceremony held to unveil restored statue at Erawan Shrine

BANGKOK, September 4 (TNA) -- Thai authorities on Friday unveiled the restored centerpiece of the Erawan Shrine at Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong Intersection that was damaged in the August 17 bombing, which killed 20 people and injured over 100. Attended by officials and the general public, the ceremony was led by a Brahman priest who performed the worship of Hindu god Brahma and poured holy water over the statue, to mark the completion of its restoration. The shrine’s golden statue of the Hindu god Brahma was repaired by the Fine Arts Demartment in 12 areas particularly on its four-headed face where a chin was blasted out. and unveiled at a religious ceremony this morning. Minister of Culture Veera Rojpojanarat said the ceremony today was intended to create confidence and raise the morale of Thai people and tourists. (TNA)
