Renowned Iranian Poet Commemorated In Belgrade

Belgrade, April 28, IRNA --- A ceremony was held on Saturday in Belgrade to commemorate renowned Iranian poet Saadi Shirazi. The ceremony was organized by the Center of Teaching Persian Language affiliated to Cultural Office of Iranian Embassy in Belgrade. According to IRNA reporter, a group of Serbian university professors, writers, poets, Belgrade University students and Persian students in Center of Teaching Persian Language attended the ceremony. Iranian Embassy Cultural Attaché Farid Eftekhari and Persian Teacher Saeed Safari delivered speeches in which they expounded on the works of Saadi. Abu-Muhammad Muslih al-Din bin Abdallah Shirazi or Saadi Shirzi (1191-1284) was one of the major Persian poets of the medieval period. He is not only famous in Persian-speaking countries, but has also been quoted in western sources. He is recognized for the quality of his writings and for the depth of his social and moral thoughts./end
