Road accidents kill 335 during Songkran

BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) - Death toll from road accidents nationwide in the past six days during the week-long Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, reached 335 with the number of injuries at over 3,500 persons. The total road accidents were recorded at more than 3,300 between April 11–16. The northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima recorded the highest number of fatalities at 17 while the northern capital of Chiang Mai had the highest number of injuries and road accidents at 160 and 153 respectively during the period. Concerned officials continued to man key highways in the country and open extra traffic lanes today as Songkran revellers are returning to Bangkok to resume their work after spending the holiday with their family members in upcountry.
