SCB bank fire won’t affect embezzlement case: Police

BANGKOK, February 8 (TNA) -- Police believe Saturday night’s fire at the Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) headquarters in Bangkok would not affect their investigation into the 1.6 billion baht embezzlement scandal of the King’s Mongkut Institute of Technology. Police Colonel Akradej Pimolsri, acting commander of Crime Suppression Division (CSD), said SCB had sent all documents essential to investigation into the case to Crime Suppression Division police. Up to 1.5 billion baht of the 1.6 billion baht allegedly embezzled by the university was under care of SCB. Police Colonel Akradej said police would later visit the fire gutted room to check whether any document related the scandal was destroyed. He noted that police were still unable to enter the room due to the heat and high temperature. The fire occurred on the tenth floor of the SCB headquarters at about 10.00 p.m. Saturday. Firemen were able to contain the blaze at around 4.00 a.m. Sunday while police said a 31-year-old volunteer firefighter had died in the accident. (TNA)
