Thai military's 2nd team of rescuers suspends trip to quake-hit Nepal

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - As the Nepalese government has stopped searches for earthquake survivors and shifted to the rehabilitation stage, the Thai military has cancelled its 2nd-team rescuers' trip to the quake-ravaged South Asian nation. Thai Supreme Commander General Worapong Sa-nganetra told journalists of the update on Wednesday, noting that the first Thai military rescue team, which has worked in Nepal since April 28 and consisted of rescuers, emergency doctors and soldiers operating water purification equipment to make drinking water. According to the supreme commander, rescuers alone in the first Thai military's rescue team are scheduled to return to Thailand on May 6, while doctors and water purification officers are scheduled to arrive home on May 12. The supreme commander said the Thai military are waiting for future requests from Nepal before deciding the deployment of relevant officers. The Thai armed forces chief expressed his high satisfaction with the work of Thai soldiers in quake-hit Nepal so far, acknowledging the successful mission for their quick and efficient work. The Thai armed forces chief announced that from now on, donations to Nepal will be deliveried by sea and coordinated with relevant agencies. (TNA)
