Thai Science and Technology Minister Attends 10th STS Forum in Japan

KYOTO, Oct 6 (TNA) - Leading scientists, ministers and business executives on Sunday attended the opening of the three-day 10th Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum in the Japanese city of Kyoto. Science ministers from several countries including Thailand’s Science and Technology Minister Peerapan Palusuk were presence at the opening of the forum where they would discuss energy, water management and explore innovative science and technology ideas for implementation and development purposes. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in his opening speech that Japan has learned the disadvantage of nuclear technology following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011. He added that Japan has adopted experiences gained by other countries in solving its problem while Japan is also exploring new technologies to help in reducing energy consumption. Results of this meeting will be raised at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. Thai Science and Technology Minister Peerapan said he would propose to the Thai government to attach more importance to science in developing the country. Inaugurated in November 2004, the STS holds annual meeting on the first Sunday of October every year in Kyoto. The meeting is aimed at creating a global human network based on trust and providing a framework for open discussions regarding the further progress of science and technology for the benefit of humankind while controlling ethical, safety and environment issues resulting from their application.(TNA)
