Thailand to host 2nd World Irrigation Forum

BANGKOK, November 1 (TNA) - Thailand is ready to host the 2nd World Irrigation Forum and the 67th International Executive Council Meeting in the northern resort Chiang Mai Province next week. Apiwat Phoomtaisong, Director of the Water Management and Maintenance Division of the Royal Irrigation Department Office 1, told journalists on Tuesday that Chiang Mai will honorably organize the 2nd World Irrigation Forum and the 67th International Executive Council Meeting at the International Convention and Exhibition Center Commemorating late His Majesty’s 7 Cycle Birthday Anniversary during November 6-12. Apiwat said the upcoming international forum will help publicize knowledge and demonstrate innovations on efficient irrigation management to brace for climate change. According to the senior official, irrigation experts from 60 countries, including China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Pakistan and Russia will attend the six-day forum. Besides, field trips will be arranged for the participants to visit the Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center in the northern Thai province, established under the royally-initiated project of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in Doi Saket District. According to the senior official, late His Majesty the King’s guidance helps improve local people's livelihood and change the drought-affected area into abundant land. The senior official noted that the international participants can learn about farming, fisheries, livestocks and industrial agriculture from various activities while visiting the center. (TNA)
