U.N. Chief Saddened over Deadly Arson Attack on Kyoto Anime Studio

New York, July 19 (Jiji Press)--U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday expressed deep sorrow over a deadly arson attack on a studio of a famous Japanese animation company the previous day. In a statement released through a spokesman, the U.N. chief said he is "deeply saddened by the loss of life caused by the arson attack and fire" at Kyoto Animation Co.'s No. 1 studio in the western Japan city of Kyoto. He also extended his "condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and the government of Japan" and expressed his wish for "a swift recovery" of people injured in the incident. "In this tragic moment, the United Nations stands in full solidarity with the government and people of Japan," he added. In the suspected arson attack, more than 30 people died and many others suffered injuries. END
