Iran-Indonesia ties to benefit Muslim world: President Raisi

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said the expansion of ties between the Islamic Republic and Indonesia holds great promise for the progress of the two nations, the region, and the broader Muslim community.

President Raisi made the remarks during a meeting with Puan Maharani, speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He pointed to the existing potentials in both Muslim countries and underscored the necessity of elevating Tehran-Jakarta relations to new levels.

“Despite the unjust threats and sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made significant progress and has achieved capabilities that have created good opportunities for the development of bilateral relations,” he added.

Expressing his gratitude for Indonesia's stance in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine and Afghanistan, the Iranian president considered the strengthening of bilateral ties as a means to secure the interests of both countries, the people of the region, and Muslims in general.

“There are no obstacles in the way of developing relations,” Raisi said, while calling for efforts to boost cooperation in the fields of energy, medicine, science, and technology.

At the meeting, Indonesia’s top parliamentarian voiced her support for the agreements reached during Raisi’s visit to her country.

I am confident that the relations between the two countries will not only expand in the political sphere but also in economic and medical fields, Maharani said.

The two sides have signed 11 cooperation documents and memoranda of understanding to develop economic and political interactions.

Raisi’s two-day visit to Indonesia has been hailed by both sides as “a new chapter” in bilateral relations that can foster cooperation in addressing regional challenges and promoting mutual prosperity.
