Armed Forces Start Parade To Mark Sacred Defense Week

Tehran, Sept 22, IRNA – Iran’s Armed Forces started their parade in the presence of President Hassan Rohani at the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini Sunday to commemorate the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week. The Sacred Defense Week commemorates braveries of the Iranian troops who fought an eight-year war from 1980-1988. The war was imposed by Iraqs executed dictator Saddam Hussein. Prior to the parade, President Rohani delivered a speech to the senior Iranian military officials as well as foreign diplomats who were also present in the ceremony. War veterans and disabled also marched before the Holy Qoran. Different units of Iran’s Army and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also took part in the parade. During the parade, the Iranian armed forces are to display their latest equipment and achievements. The Sacred Defense Week is being marked annually in Iran in commemoration of sacrifices of the Iranian forces during the eight-year imposed war./end
