British Campaigner Praises Iran’s Achievements After The Revolution

London, Feb 8, IRNA – A British peace campaigner and political commentator praised Iran’s achievements during the last three decades, saying that Iranians should be proud of their success after the 1979 revolution. In an interview with IRNA ahead of the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory, Dr James B. Thring said Iran has stood proudly and indefatigably against cruel embargoes, defamatory propaganda, insidious state terrorism and threats of war. “Despite these hardships, Iran has aided poor countries both spiritually and economically. Most of the other nations in the region have wasted their oil wealth on western armaments and fashionable accessories instead of their own independence” he said. He added Iran has developed its own civil laws and democratic systems. It has developed its own technologies, industries and products and strengthened its famous commercial acumen. “This puts Iran on a relatively secure foundation which should be admired by her neighbors. It is especially instructive that the chaos orchestrated by the International Crisis Group and other disruptive agencies, have not derailed Iranian people’s resolve to support their government and spiritual leaders in resisting this insidious onslaught”, said Dr Thring, convener of the London-based Planning for Peace. “Strategically, this has strengthened Iran’s position, especially with regard to investment confidence which will be very valuable as emerging nations like China, India and South America look for trading opportunities to replace those European and American partners whose economies are crumbling under banking fraud, debts and unproductiveness.” He was of the view that without the Islamic Revolution “Iran may be in turmoil as are surrounding nations without the moral compass or self-sufficient strength to survive the blockade.” On the nuclear issue and recent talks between Iran and P5+1, he said “Iran will emerge as having sustained the moral high ground all along and apologies and compensation are due... Persian culture will re-emerge as a beacon for the world. Diplomatic relations will flourish once more and wealth and dignity will be rightly restored to the Iranian people.” “Iran is already highly regarded as a leader of the Non-Aligned Nations and this leadership will be enhanced by the moral standards she champions in the Islamic codes. Even the US and UK and possibly Israel will respect Iran’s dominant position”, said Thring, who is also a veteran peace campaigner and author of “Peace with Iran”. “Even America and the UK are now negotiating with Iran, as evidenced by the Geneva Talks... But the lead here probably comes from Germany, China and Russia on the UN Security Council who want to see justice for Iran”, he added. “The people of Europe and America also do not want another devastating war with all its humanitarian disasters, embarrassments, costs and fears of terrorism.”/end
