British Professor: Iran’s International Influence Is Growing

London, Feb. 5, IRNA – A British professor and political commentator believes that Iran’s international and regional influence is growing. Speaking to IRNA ahead of the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory, professor Rodney Shakespeare said: ˈUndoubtedly, Iranian international influence is growing whilst that of the Wahhabis (who promote throat-slitting) is not.ˈ “The significance of the Iranian Revolution is that it asserted the political, economic, cultural and religious independence of Iran and told the world that other countries, too, could become independent of Western finance capitalism”, he said. Referring to Iran’s achievements during the last three decades, the professor said: Iran gave, and is giving, a colossal lead to the world. “Moreover, Iran is steadfast in opposing the expansion of Zionism into the lands of others.” In response to a question about Geneva agreement and the recent developments in Iran’s relations with Western countries, Shakespeare said: several European countries wish to improve their relations with Iran but the problem is the grip of Zionism on their political institutions. ˈThe Zionists, like spoilt babies, are prepared to precipitate some form of large-scale war if they do not get their own wayˈ, he warned. “Gradually, the situation is improving but the risk is of war precipitated by Israel”, Shakespeare added./end
