Conference On Islamic Unity Due In Tehran Late January

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thoughts (WFPIST) Hojatoleslam Mohsen Araki said Sunday that 26th Conference of the Islamic Unity would be held in Iran on January 27-28. Speaking to reporters, the official said that a large number of senior scholars and thinkers of some 102 Islamic and non-Islamic states are to attend the two-day event in the Iranian capital. The conference would be inaugurated with a speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Araki said. He added that over 300 senior scientific, political and cultural figures of the Islamic world including those from Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Syria, Pakistan and the Persian Gulf littoral states as well as a large number of Iranian scholars would attend the gathering. The official said that the symbol of unity among Islamic Ummah (nations) is to be unveiled during the conference. He explained that the symbol included a “rose flower with the name of the holy Prophet of Islam Hazrat-e Mohammad (PBUH) written in its center. It would also be proposed during the conference that any case of insult against the Islamic faiths or sanctity be legally considered as an offence. He also said that another proposal would be discussed in the conference for the establishment of three Islamic unions including the union of the resistance and WFPIST ulema (scholars), the union of the Islamic world’s businessmen and the union of the Islamic world’s women./end
