EP Resolution Legally Worthless: VP

Tehran, April 8, IRNA – European Parliament anti-Iran resolution is legally worthless, Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari said on Monday. He made the remarks in an interview with IRNA. “Since the European Parliament does not have executive authority, its resolution is legally worthless,” Ansari underlined. He noted that it is not the first time the European Parliament issues a resolution based on politically motivated information published by unreliable sources. The resolution has been issued under pressure of the Zionist lobbies, he said, adding that the EP has issued as many as 60 anti-Iran resolutions with similar wordings. “It was an unacceptable action and a clear interference in Iran’s internal affairs,ˈ Ansari added. Meanwhile, he asserted that such moves should not affect the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and the EU which aims at boosting ties. EP passed a resolution on April 7 that expressed concern over the alleged violation of human rights in Iran. It claimed that Iran’s presidential election in June 2013, which led to the victory of Hassan Rouhani, was “not held according to the EU democratic standards.” Iran has dismissed the resolution as unrealistic and counterproductive at a time when the Islamic Republic and the EU have taken initial steps to normalize bilateral relations./end
