Iran Rohani, Pakistan Sharif Stress Neighbors’ Role In Afghan Peace

Islamabad, Sept 25, IRNA – Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Iranian President Hassan Rohani called on Afghan neighbors to work closely with Kabul. They also urged them to support an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led political process, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. During the meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the two leaders reviewed status of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues particularly the challenges being faced by the world Muslims, the statement added. The PM stated that bilateral energy cooperation will serve the interest of both countries, it said, adding, “Pakistan and Iran enjoy relations that are deeply rooted in historical, cultural and religious commonalities.” It was the first meeting of PM Sharif and the Iranian President following their elections./end
