Larijani: West's Acquisition Of Science Led To Their Looting Of Other Nations

Tehran, May 1, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that acquisition fo science has brought no accomplishment to the western countries but capability of looting the Middle East region. Addressing the 2nd Forum of Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians for Education (FASPPED) in Tehran, Larijani said the so-called developed countries have waged many wars in the region in recent decades. So, he said, the West’s determination to acquire different sciences and education have just prepared the grounds for them to loot other nations. Referring to the US military expedition into Iraq and its occupation of that country, Larijani said Washington could have build schools in Iraqi cities instead of killing the innocent people there. Larijani underlined that the West is trying to shatter the unity of the regional nations, adding the US has sold 18 billion dollars worth of weapons to certain countries in the Persian Gulf region in the past two years. The western countries are expected to do better as the level of science and education has increases there, said the Majlis speaker. On FASPPED, the Majlis Speaker said it aims to make educational achievements via cooperation both at regional and international levels. He hoped that by holding such forums in the international arenas, the world would witness peace and friendship as well as growth in cultural fields. Pointing to the important role of parliaments in managing nations, Larijani called on the FASPPED to issue proper regulations to improve the current level of public education. During the forum, Kian Tang, Head of the UNESCO Secretariat Educational Division appreciated the Iranian government and parliament for hosting the FASPPED, calling on Tehran to play more effective role in the area of education./end
