Nosratollah Tajik To Depart London For Tehran Tuesday

London, Dec 18, IRNA – Former Iranian ambassador to Jordan, Nosratollah Tajik, after spending six years in house arrest in Britain, would depart London for Tehran today, Tuesday. According to IRNA, London's West Minister Court ruled last week as a final verdict that the IRI former diplomat is acquitted of the accusation brought up against him. Earlier on Tuesday, November 27th, 2012, the London High Court had issued the acquaintance decree of Tajik, rejecting a US request for forwarding him to the United States. Tajik said Monday in a brief talk with IRNA that knowing the exact date of his return to the Islamic homeland had delighted his heart. He added, 'I have been counting the moments for years and I hope I would as soon as possible be able to meet my dear fellow citizens, my friends, and my relatives.' Mr. Tajik added, 'I would be departing London along with my family members for Tehran, and God willing, we would land in Tehran's Mehrabad Airport on Tuesday morning. The former Iranian ambassador to Jordan once again appreciated the media efforts aimed at his release throughout the past six years and also all those who tried to proved his innocence. The Islamic Students Union of London, Towhid Center, had held a special commemoration service last week, praising the resistance and patience of Tajik throughout his six years of being under house arrest in Britain. Nosratollah Tajik who was at the time of arrest in London been teaching at Durham University in northeast England was arrested in the course of a premeditated by the United States FBI plot in the year 2006 by FBI agents, accused of trying to buy night vision cameras for Iran in England. From right then the US officials had been asking for deporting Tajik to America. The preliminary court had voted for extraditing Tajik and the team of his lawyers to US, despite his objections, but the London High Court on November 27th, 2012, rejected that verdict and asked for his being acquitted for the accused crime. Following the issuance of that verdict by the British High Court and no appeals request by British Home Office finally last Thursday the West Minister Court issued its final verdict on acquitting this former Iranian professor and diplomat of all accused crimes. Former Iranian diplomat Nosratollah Tajik, who recently won a British High Court battle to avoid extradition to the United States and was set free on December 13 after six years under house arrest, will arrive in Tehran early on Wednesday. He was the target of an American operation in London six years ago and was accused of alleged conspiracy to export US defense night-vision weapons to Iran without a license. ،here had been long and controversial delays in the extradition process amid fears that sending Tajik to the US for trial could cause further diplomatic problems between Iran and Britain. Since his arrest, Tajik, who had moved to Britain as an honorary fellow at Durham University in the northeast of England, had fought extradition through the British courts and immigration system. He eventually exhausted the legal appeals process, a UK government official said. The European Court on Human Rights, which has some power to overrule British government or court decisions in immigration or extradition cases, declined to hear Tajik's appeal, the official added./end
